Around 300 cyclists from all walks of life brave the cool winter morning today to take part in a bike rally from Ekamra Plaza near Sishu Bhawan to Shikharchandi Hills. The 12.1 km long cyclothon event was organized by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to promote the fitness of residents.
As part of the central government's Fit India campaign, the Cyclothon aimed to raise awareness of fitness activities and the fitness of cycling among the urban population. The event caused a sensation among the participants and the public.
Minati Mohapatra, first Odia Arjun Prize winner and eight-time national cycling champion, announced the event together with BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhury: “Cycling is a very good way to stay fit. If we stay fit, we can keep the coronavirus in check. In view of the large number of participants here, I'm really happy. The cycling culture needs to develop as this would help us all stay fit, ”said Mohapatra.
Officials said they tried to keep the trend of cycling among the youth and fitness enthusiasts by organizing cyclothons on a regular basis and cyclegiri every Friday
