TALK to any childhood sexual abuse survivor and it is evident that it leaves a legacy that will determine the rest of that person's life.
Shame, feelings of guilt, depression, low self-esteem, self-doubt and, very often, self-loathing cloud every day of their lives so deeply that they often never come close to reaching their full potential.
Former Labor MP Eric Joyce was given a suspended sentence after gaining a naughty picture of a child
Survivors struggle to trust and build meaningful relationships.
Often times this leads to secondary problems such as drug and alcohol abuse. Put simply, child abuse corrupts lives.
I have always felt comforted that there are laws that protect children and hold those who perpetrate violence and abuse against them accountable. But apparently not anymore.
Eric Joyce, a former Labor MP and former army officer – all hallmarks of an upright citizen – was spared jail for his crimes.
He visited Ipswich Crown Court, which was charged with possession of footage showing "the sexual abuse of very young children".
His computer searched for material for five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten year old girls.
The film he owned was Category A – the most serious there is.
Seven different children were introduced, the youngest of whom was a 12 month old baby. All were younger than seven years – completely defenseless and completely unable to protect themselves.
And that's certainly when the law has to intervene.
The judge couldn't have put it better when he said, “The reason this abuse took place is because there are people like you who want to see these films.
"If there was no market, these children would not be exposed to these very serious crimes."

In other words, those who consume are just as bad as those who are perpetrators.
Yet this pervert has only been given a suspended sentence, which means he won't go to jail for an hour, let alone the years he deserves.
If you or your child survived the abuse filmed for the satisfaction of Eric Joyce, would you feel like justice has been done? , I didn't think so.
Joyce's defense attorney cited the fact that Joyce had drunk a lot as an explanation during the five-year period the crime was committed.
However, being drunk is the type of defense that can be used to explain a minor misjudgment, rather than creating an appetite to watch children get hurt.
And what about the children who have already been harmed by his “impulsive behavior”? Who will protect you and others like you?
Who will protect these children if our justice system doesn't?
This sentence sends the message to all men who buy and use child sexual abuse images that if caught for it, they will likely avoid prison.
Protecting babies and children is clearly not the priority that it needs to be.
A suspended sentence is neither the crime Joyce committed nor the role he played in destroying the lives of several young children who need and deserve protection.
Men who uphold the need for these images and footage to be created in the first place are part of the problem as well as the people who create them and should be punished accordingly.
Whether the punishment will keep them from doing it again is a completely different question. But at least it will put others off.
It looks tempting
While most of us are stuck in the UK trying to recover from the health crisis and financial chaos that Covid-19 has inflicted on us while slowly melting in the oppressive humidity, many celebs are on vacation.
I know this because endless photos of them appear in the media day after day, either on the beach, in a bikini, swimming in the ocean, diving in a pool or sipping a cocktail.
When I saw Nicole Scherzinger enjoying her sunny break, I wanted to leave
This week a picture of Nicole Scherzinger looking amazing in a tiny bikini and watching the sunset in St. Lucia made me think maybe it is time to take a break.
In preparation for any vacation I would have to do my roots, waxing, tanning, pedicures and manicures.
So I thought damn it – I love England!
Top girls so skillful over 50
I remember my mom telling me that when you hit 50, no one looks at you.
By "nobody" she actually meant men, because as she explained, at 50 you are beyond your best and there is really not much to see.

But times change as the stunning Elizabeth Hurley (55), Christie Brinkley (66), Michelle Pfeiffer (62), Monica Bellucci (55), Elle Macpherson (56), Sandra Bullock (56), Sharon Stone (62) , Vanessa Williams (57), Gillian Anderson (52), Halle Berry (54), Cindy Crawford (54) etc. etc. prove that there is still a lot to see at 50.
But I know where my mother came from. We all have good days and bad days. It's just that the good days for most of us go further apart by 50.
But I was outraged this week when Kelly Brook, who is only 40, revealed that cruel trolls had branded her "unsexy" and "beyond her best."
She said that people see her as "that 40 year old fat girl" and pointed out that "people grow up, people get bigger, people change, it happens".
Yes she is right. People age, even the most beautiful.
That's because no matter how hard you try, time just doesn't stand still – extensive gym workouts, a little filler and botox, and total abandonment to the food you eat.
But honestly, anyone who blames Kelly is either completely blind or extremely jealous.
It is, as they called it in my day, “a knockout” – naturally beautiful, curvy in the right places and seems to be beautiful.
, she's not the pin-up girl she was in her twenties, but to me she's even better at 40.
Happy, healthy, independent, confident, sexy and beautiful.
So it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. At any age, just love yourself because you really don't need anyone.

Ex On The Beach bosses have banned physical contact for the next series
So no hot bodies in bikini and no kissing.
Aren't those the only two things that defined the show?
Will someone tune in now?
Ramsay is not that bad
SAY what you like about Gordon Ramsay – and lots of, of course – but you have to love the fact that he was offering free "bottomless pizza" to students from his street pizza restaurant chain on A-Level Results Day.
The 53-year-old TV chef made the offer on Instagram, saying he wanted to reward all students for their hard work – no matter what exam results they got.
An offer so nice and kind that it threatens to seriously damage his reputation as Mr. Nasty.
Rich life is not set in stone
SINGER Joss Stone was classified as "deceived" and "deaf" after declaring from her luxury home in the Bahamas that "happiness is a choice".
Given the number of millionaires I've met over the years who are still lonely and discontented, it's fair to say that a luxurious lifestyle is not an automatic free pass to happiness.

Yes, sure, Joss had many advantages and privileges.
But we all know that money can't buy you love.
There are many people who are out of cash but still have a positive mental outlook, love and be loved, and can choose happiness.
Maybe the joss would include whether or not she had a home in the Bahamas.
Life is too short to diet, Jesy
Little Mix's JESY Nelson has in the past been open about how she would starve herself before concerts and filming.
She has stated that the pressure to be thin was so intense that she would only consume Diet Coke for four days. Then, when she got a little dizzy, she ate a pack of ham because she knew it was low in calories.

I'd like to think that all of that pressure was firmly in the past, but this week she posted a photo of her dinner on Instagram: eight scrawny little baby carrots and a few chicken slivers.
